Blog Featured Images 76-

In this post, we are going to share our top ten hot tub dos and donts for all of you new (or not so new) spa owners. Owning a spa is an amazing luxury, but your spa can quickly become a headache if you don’t know how to take care of it.

Hot Tub Dos and Donts: Here are the DO`S

Maintain Good Water Chemistry

Maintaining good water chemistry is a vital part of owning a spa. Be sure you check the chemical balance before using the spa so that you can make small adjustments as needed. See our post here for more information on Water Chemistry.

Keep The Spa Filters Clean

Keeping your spa filters clean is important because it can directly affect the operation of your spa. For example, if your spa’s filters get dirty and clogged, the high-limit switch will trip and shut down the spa. If this happens during below-freezing temperatures, you could experience serious damage to your spa.

Keep Your Spa Covered

If your spa water is exposed to the elements you for long periods, you run the risk of wasting electricity (money) due to poor heat retention. You are also running the risk of allowing debris and insects into your spa.

Replace Your Water

It is recommended that you replace your spa water about once a quarter (or more depending on how often you use the spa). Neglecting this could lead to component damage.

Prepare Your Spa for Freezing Temperatures

If you know you will not be using your spa during the winter seasons, you will need to winterize your spa. Check out our post about Winterizing Your Spa.

Hot Tub Dos and Donts: Here are the DONT`S

Don’t Ignore Leaks

One of the most annoying parts of spa ownership is when your spa springs a leak. The best thing you can do when this happens is to call a professional to come and do the repair.

Don’t “Eye-Ball” Your Water Chemistry

You should only add chemicals to your spa water after you have measured the chemical balance. Make sure you keep your dialed-in.

Don’t Use Bleach

Believe it or not, we have encountered people who use bleach instead of chlorine. We recommend not doing this as it can damage spa components as well as your skin!

Don’t Use Your Mobile Devices While You Soak

This one is just common sense. Water and electronics do not mix! Use your soaking time as a mini-vacation. Unplug and relax.

Don’t Leave Electrical Components Exposed

Make sure you keep the equipment compartment sealed when you are not working on a repair. Leaving components exposed can lead to rodent damage, water damage, and leaks.
