5 Crucial Things to Check When Buying a Used Spa

Blog Featured Images 93-

In this post, we are going to give a few tips on different things to check when buying a used spa. If you check these 5 things when buying a used spa, you can avoid some serious headaches!

1. When Buying a Used Spa- Make Sure the Spa Can Hold Water

This may sound like common sense, but you’d be surprised at the number of people who buy a used spa, only to find it has a leak! Call the seller and make sure they have the spa full when you come to see it. This is necessary for the next checkpoints.

2. When Buying a Used Spa- Make Sure the Heater Works

No one likes a cold spa! It is vital that you make sure the heater of the spa is working properly. If you arrive and the spa is cold, there is a chance you could be going home with a broken heater. Contact the seller ahead of time to have them fill and power on the spa 24 hours before you go to purchase it.

3. When Buying a Used Spa- Make Sure the Jets and Jet Pumps Work

When you arrive to see the spa you’ll be buying, be sure to check that the jets are operational. If the spa has 2 jet pumps, make sure you test Jets 1 and Jets 2. You should also make sure the diverter valves and air control valves work properly.

4. When Buying a Used Spa- Check for Rodent Damage

Rodents may be small, but they can cause some big issues for spa owners. Check the lower exterior of the spa for any chewed up areas or holes. You can also bring a screwdriver with you and open the equipment compartment to make sure it is not housing a rats nest! Inspect the wires of the components for any bite marks or exposed wires.

5. When Buying a Used Spa- Get a General History of The Spa

Talk to the seller of the spa to get information about any major repairs (or lack of repairs) that have happened in the past. You will want to know how old the spa is, how often it was used, and how well-kept it was. Ask about any issues with rodents or power surges. If the seller gets uncomfortable or irritated at your questions, it may be a sign that they are trying to sell you a “lemon”. Look at it like buying a car! You have the right to make sure it works or at least have all the information needed to make any needed repairs once you buy it.

If upon further inspection you find issues with the spa, but you are still considering buying it, feel free to barter with the seller. Remember to always go with your gut and never feel pressured into buying anything you aren’t comfortable with.
