Heater Replacement in a Hot Spot and Solana Spa

Welcome to Backyardplus! In this post, we are going to show you how to do a heater replacement in a Hot Spot and Solana spa. Before we get started, let’s go over the tools you will need.

Tools you will need for a heater replacement in a Hot Spot and Solana spa:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Channel locking pliers
  • 3/8” wrench
  • Silicone grease

Step 1. Disconnect power from the spa.

Step 2. Drain the spa.

Step 2. Drain the spa-

Step 3. Remove the equipment door and control box lid.

Step 3. Remove door-
Step 3.5 Remove the control box lid-

Step 4. Disconnect the two black hot wires (J18 & J19) and the heater ground wire from the circuit board.

Step 4. Disconnect the heater wires-

Step 5. Disconnect the High Limit thermistor (J6) and the pressure switch (J5) from the circuit board.

Step 5. Disconnect the hI LiM and PS-

Step 6. Loosen the compression fittings, disconnect the bonding wire, and remove the heater.

Step 6. Loosen the compression fittings-
Step 6.5 Disconnect the bonding wire and remove the heater-

Step 7. Install the ground wire and the two black hot wires on the new heater.

Step 7. Install the new heater wires-

Step 8. Install the High Limit thermistor on the new heater.

Step 8. High limit install-

Step 9. Remove the plug in the heater, wrap the threads of the new pressure switch with plumbers’ tape, and thread the new Pressure Switch into the new heater.

Step 9. remove the PS plug-
Step 9.5 thread in the new PS-

Step 10. Remove the old compression O-rings, cover the new O-rings with silicone grease, and install them into the pump unions.

Step 10. Remove the compression O rings-
Step 10.5 Cover the new O rings with grease-

Step 11. Install the heater and connect the bonding wire. Tighten the compression fittings.

Step 11. Install the heater connect the bonding wire-
Step 11.5 Tighten the compression fittings-

Step 12. Connect the two black hot wires to the Heater J18 Black and J19 White on the circuit board and tighten the nuts with a 3/8” wrench.

Step 12. Connect the heater wires-

Step 13. Connect the green ground wire to HEATER GREEN on the circuit board. Make sure all the connections are tight.

Step 13. Connect the heater ground-

Step 14. Plug the high-limit thermistor into the J6 LIMIT port on the circuit board.

Step 14. Connect the high limit-

Step 15. Plug the pressure switch into the J5 PRESSURE SW port on the circuit board.

Step 15. Plug in the PS-
