How to Flush, Refill, and Clean Your Hot Tub (12 Easy Steps)

Welcome to Backyardplus! In this post, we show you how to flush, properly refill, and clean your hot tub. Before we get started, let’s go over the products you will need.

Products You Will Need to flush, refill, and clean your hot tub:

  • Bioguard, SPAGUARD Spa System Flush, 24 Oz, Item #: 42650BIO
  • Bioguard Filter Cleaner, 32oz, Item #: 42654BIO
  • Bioguard Off the Wall Surface Cleaner, Item #: 23612BIO
  • 1-MICRON HOT TUB PRE-FILTER, Hydropure Technologies, Item #: 76028-BYP

Step 1. Remove the filter compartment lid and remove the filters.

Step 1.5 Remove the filters-

Step 2. Turn the jet pump on and pour the Spa Guard System Flush directly into the filter compartment.

Step 2.5 Pour the spa flush-

Let the jets run for 15 minutes. The water will be very foamy.

Step 2.5 Foamy water-

Step 3. After 15 minutes, turn off the jets, disconnect power from the spa, and drain the spa.

Step 3.5 Disconnect power-
Step 3.75 Drain the spa-

Step 4.  Spray the filters generously with Spa Guard filter cleaner and let them soak in the filter cleaning solution for approximately 15 minutes.

Step 4.25 Spa Guard filter cleaner-

After a good soak, spray them with a garden hose until they are clean.

Step 4.5 Clean the filters-

Step 5. After the spa is drained, clean the spa shell with BioGuard Off The Wall surface cleaner.

Step 5.25 Off the wall-

Step 6. Rinse the shell with clean water.

Step 6. Rinse the shell-

Step 7. Rinse the filter compartment and clean up all debris with a towel.

Step 7. Clean the filter compartment-

Step 8. Remove the gray standpipe. Install the other filter standpipes, filters, and filter caps. Install the drain caps.

Step 8 Remove the gray standpipe-

Step 9. Put a garden hose directly into the standpipe fitting, turn it on full blast, and hold a rag around it to remove any airlocks from the water lines. You should see large air bubbles coming up from the drain screen. Continue re-filling the spa through the standpipe fitting until the air bubbles decrease.

Step 9. Refill the spa through the gray-

Step 10. Once the air bubbles have decreased, install the gray standpipe and filter.

Step 10. Install the gray 2-

Step 11. Thread the pre-filter onto the garden hose and fill the spa through the filter compartment.

Step 11. Clean screen filter-

Step 12. When the water level reaches above all the jets, reconnect power to the spa.

Step 12. Water above the jets-

Reconnect power to the spa!

Step 12.5 Reconnect Power-
