General Tripped Breaker Troubleshooting information-
The process of troubleshooting a tripped spa breaker is basically the process of elimination. You can find the component causing the breaker to trip by disconnecting the suspected component and testing the breaker. You will need to repeat this process until the breaker holds. If all of the components are disconnected and the breaker is still tripping, there is a good chance that the breaker itself is defective.
When in doubt, call the BYP Technical Support Team at (805) 541-9000! We will be more than happy to help you solve any issue you may be having with your spa.
SAFETY FIRST: Turn Off All Power to the Spa before doing any of these steps.
Step 1
Access the Spa’s Circuit Board(s)
The first thing you will want to do (after powering down the spa) is to remove the equipment compartment door. Once the door is removed, find the spa’s control box. Use a regular Phillips Screwdriver to remove the lid of the control box. Inside the control box, you will see the circuit board where all of the electrical components of the spa plugin.
step 2
Remove the Heater Wires
Find the white, black, and green wires of the heater and remove them from the circuit board. After removing the heater wires, power on the spa and see if the breaker still trips. If the breaker holds, you likely have a bad heater.
If the breaker trips, continue to the next step.
Step 3
Remove the Circulation Pump Wires
Find the white, black, and green wires of the circulation pump and remove them from the circuit board. Then, turn on the power to the spa. If the breaker holds, you will have to replace the circulation pump.
If the breaker trips, continue to the next step.
Step 4
Remove the Jet Pump(s) Wires
If your jet pump is a 2-speed jet pump, it will have a red wire in addition to the white, black, and green. Make sure you remove all of the jet pump wires from the circuit board. If you have two jet pumps you will need to disconnect the wires for both of them. After all the jet pump wires are disconnected, turn the breaker back on. If the breaker holds set, you may have a bad pump.
NOTE: If you have two jet pumps, you will need to hook one of them back up and determine which jet pump is causing the breaker to trip.
If the breaker trips, continue to the next step.
Step 5
Remove the Ozonator Wires
Locate the white, black, and green wires of the Ozonator and disconnect them from the circuit board. Then, turn on the power to the spa. If the breaker holds, you will have to replace the Ozonator.
If the breaker is still tripping after all of the components have been disconnected, you most likely have a bad breaker or GFCI plug.
