Welcome to Backyardplus! In this post, we show you how to replace a GFCI circuit breaker. Before we get started, let’s go over the tools you will need.
Tools you will need:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver
Step 1. Go to the main electrical panel and turn OFF the breaker feeding the subpanel.
Step 2. Open up the subpanel and remove the front cover.
Step 3. Disconnect the two hot wires and the neutral wire going from the GFCI breaker to the spa.
Step 4. Disconnect the GFCI neutral from the neutral bus bar and remove the GFCI breaker.
Step 5. Install the new GFCI breaker and connect the neutral pigtail wire to the bus bar.
Step 6. Connect the spa neutral wire and the two spa hot wires to the correct terminals on the GFCI breaker.
Step 7. Reinstall the sub-panel cover.
Step 8. Go to the main electrical panel and turn ON the breaker feeding the subpanel.
Step 9. Test the breaker: With the handle in ON position, press “Push to test”. The handle should move to “Trip” position indicating that the GFCI has opened the circuit.
