Testing Hot Tub Temperature Control and High Limit Thermistors in a Hot Spring, Tiger River, Limelight, Hot Spot and Solana Spa

Welcome to Backyardplus! In this post, we walk you through testing hot tub temperature control and high limit thermistors in your Hot Spring, Tiger River, Limelight, Hot Spot and Solana Spa. Before we get started, let’s go over the tools and parts you will need.

Tools you will need:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Multimeter with 20K Ohms scale
  • Thermometer

Parts you will need:

  • Temperature sensor
  • High Limit Sensor

Step 1. Disconnect power from the spa.

Step 1. Disconnect the power-

Step 2. Remove the equipment door and control box lid.

Step 2. Door and lid-

Step 3. Set the meter to 20K on the OHM scale.

Step 3. Set to 20k ohms-

Step 4. Record the temperature of the spa water.

Step 5. Unplug the thermistor from the control box.

Step 5. Unplug the sensor-

Step 6. Meter across the two Thermistor leads.

Step 6. Meter across the two leads-

Step 7. Refer to the Temperature versus Resistance chart at Backyardplus.com to find the correct resistance value for the temperature measured. If the temperature and resistance does not match that of the chart, this test has failed, and the thermistor must be replaced. Remember if the spa has been inactive, the spa water temperature may be different than the water temperature in the heater housing.

Step 7. Refer to the temp vs resistance chart-
